During the summer from July 3rd to September 3rd, enjoy The Generous Pour at all The Capital Grille locations (except Salt Lake City, UT). Choose any of the entrées, and for $35, you get a pour of seven wines to pair with your dinner:
Department 66 “Fragile” Rosé (Maury, Languedoc-Roussillon, France), aromas of white flowers, raspberry and watermelon with flavors of summer stone fruit and fresh strawberries;
J Vineyards Pinot Gris (Sonoma County, California), fragrant jasmine and honeysuckle with an inviting palate of white peach, pear, kiwi and lime zest;
J Vineyards Chardonnay (Sonoma County, California Tri-Appellation), aromas of lightly buttered toast and freshly picked citrus with notes of baked apple pastry, caramelized pear and grilled pineapple;
– J Vineyards Pinot Noir (Sonoma County, California Tri-Appellation), notes of red and black cherry, ripe berries and plum layered with hints of cocoa, earth and toast;
8 Years in the Desert Red Wine (Orin Swift, Napa Valley, California), aromas of wild blackberry, oatmeal raisin cookie and spices, dark berries and black cherry with a palate featuring a hint of cocoa and a long finish;
Abstract Red Wine (Orin Swift, Napa Valley, California), a deep purple wine with notes of blue and blackberries and hints of dark chocolate and seasoned leather;
Palermo Cabernet Sauvignon (Orin Swift, Napa Valley, California), opens with aromas of ripe cassis and blackberry, followed by dark chocolate and toasted oak.

I got to try first-hand the 2023 Generous Pour lineup at the Los Angeles location of The Capital Grille in downtown. With the professional help of the sommelier, I chose items from the menu to best pair with the seven wines. I think we did well.

By the way, I really liked the Tuna Tartare with avocado and served with both mango sauce and Sriracha, a sweet and spicy combination; as well as the delicious Lobster and Crab Cake. The Caramelized French Onion Soup is very cheesy, as it should be. Some say you should stay away from sugar, perhaps especially after the Sesame Seared Tuna on top of gingered rice and the Bone-in Kona Crusted Dry Aged NY Strip covered with shallot butter, but not indulging in The Capital Grille Cheesecake would be a miss, not to mention the Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake, which is a must for dessert lovers.

Each The Capital Grille features a bar, beautiful wine cellar(s), white tablecloths, a statue representing Lady Justice, the American eagle, and portraits of local icons of the city the restaurant is located in — in the case of Los Angeles, Marvel legend Stan Lee and civil rights leader Cesar Chavez.

The Capital Grille is part of Darden, a hospitality company which owns the other full-service restaurants Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Yard House, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, Seasons 52, Eddie V’s and Bahama Breeze, a total of over 1,850 restaurants.
